I am still in my mode of using up older supplies. I have had these Prima Flowers forever now. In fact, I could probably wall paper a couple of complete houses with the flowers that I have left from my Prima infatuation. :) I will use them. I will use them. I will use them. Actually, forcing myself to use through some of my supplies has been pretty therapeutic and eye opening. It makes me consider each and every purchase. Will this such-n-such still be around in a few months? Or can I see myself honestly using up this before it goes out of my style? And I have learned that my supplies were meant to be used and not hoarded up for months or even years. (I know no one knows what I am talking about, right?)

Happy Valentine's Day

As tradition would hold, I sent my children off to school today with special handmade valentine's. This year my son put his design preferences on them and my daughter ultimately followed. Although, I wish she would have stuck with her original idea of glitter swirls and hearts. BUT, I love making things for the kids and love seeing them sparkle when they see the finished product.

Here is what we came up with:

My son really liked the idea of the "You Rock" with the guitar and was super excited that I had a "Dude, You Rock" stamp. So, we went with the "Dude You Rock" and Red Guitars for the boys and the "You Rock" with Pink guitars for the girls. 50 valentine's later and I was done.

I hope the kids love them, but I am pretty certain that they will end up at the bottom of the trash can this side of next week. :) Either way, I had fun designing them with the kids and spending some much needed crafty time.

Challenging Myself to Look at my Stash

As you may or may not know, we are in the process of building a house. I have been working on designing my craft room. (Yes, I have the most amazing husband in the world. As he insisted that we design in the plans a room of my very own far away from the reaches of my children. My own little escape and piece of heaven. ) I have been thinking about all the aspects that will go into my room. I realized a few needs that I currently don't have. One of the needs being a place for patterned paper. I don't tend to use it much, but I do love it. It wouldn't sit there if I have some way of storing it in such a way that made it assessable and easily available.

I am also challenging myself to use up some things in my stash that are stuck or haven't been used. This will allow the move to go easier. And it will use up some things I just don't use much anymore. That is how this card was born - using up older supplies that have been "stuck" and using some patterned paper.

I went ahead and made a coordinating envelope to go with the card. I didn't have enough of the patterned paper, so I had to turn to my stamp stash and make something. I love how it turned out. It is fun to add these details. I will hopefully continue to challenge myself to go a step further than just a card front.

To the Bride and Groom

A really good friend of ours just announced her engagement a couple of weeks ago. I was so excited for her. I have been needing to get a few more wedding cards made, so this was the perfect inspiration.

I have had a HUGE hole in my stamping arsenal for a while when it comes to good wedding stamps. I was super excited for PTI to put out such a great Love and Marriage Stamp set. It is the perfect combination of images and sentiments for such precious occasions.

I have been working on making a "complete card package" every time a make a card. I usually fly through the card not even considering the inside or envelope. So, I took some time to finish this card out completely.

It isn't anything special inside, but I thought it was a great touch to finish the overall card. I am going to continue to push myself in the finishing details area. No promises though. :) But, I am going to be making an effort.

Have a great weekend! We are spending the weekend together as a family. It is mom/son and dad/daughter date night. We have plans to catch a movie the next night. And we are planning our Family Fun Game Night for Sunday. It is so much fun to play Old Maid, Uno, Crazy 8, Trouble, etc with the kids. I am trying to get in some extra family time before the new baby takes up my time for a while.

Project Life 2011

Once again, I was able to complete my Project Life for last year or 2011. Although I don't do a full on Project 365, I get pretty close (well, for the most part). My goal is to just take pictures of our life and family.

After a year's worth of hard work . . . my book arrived today!!!

I ordered again from Blurb. I was in love with my 2010 Project Life book. So, it was a no brainer where I would get mine from this year. I am super pleased with the quality and the turn around time.

Here is a little peek inside.

If you are interested, here is some random information about what I do and how it gets from photo to awesome book in 365 days.

I take LOTS of photos. I always have. I don't stress about taking a photo a day, but I really try to, on purpose, capture as many things behind the lens as possible.

I have used Weeds and Wildflowers stuff for my last 2 books. Let me just say that it is FABULOUS!!! Gina, who I think owns Weeds, is the best! The girls at the Weedpatch (the Weeds and Wildflowers forum) are amazing. They are so helpful, so nice, and so willing to help and share. This year I used the Every{day} Life line of products. I really love how big the photos turn out. Last year I used the Sweet and Simple Line of products and although I was super pleased, the Every{day} Life blew it out of the water. The focus is really on the photos, then the journaling, and then the decoration. The best part is that you can get as decorated or sophisticated as you choose. If you are like me and like the CAS style, it is super easy. If you prefer more embellishment, it is pretty easy to add decorative papers, elements, word art, and title. What I love the most is when you open my book, you will SEE the photos. They take center stage.

I format my book as follows: a monthly title page, a 2 page spread for the 1st to the 7th, a 2 page spread for the 8th to the 14th, a 2 page spread for the 15th to the 21st, a 2 page spread for the 22nd to the 28th, a single page for the 29th to the 31st (or 30th). I do add a couple of title pages at the front and an ending page at the very end. But that is just my preference. If I only have 2 photos for a particular week, I roll with it. If I have 10 photos I want to include for a particular week, I go with that too. I don't stress about it at all. I do like to add as much journaling as possible. I have learned through the years of scrapbooking that the journaling completes the story.

There are times when I do make a single book about a single thing. For instance, when we take a big vacation, I include some of those photos in my yearly book. But, I then go back and make a book about that particular vacation with extra details and lots and lots of photos. I also make smaller books for my children that cover a year in their life. Again, some of the same photos end up in both books. In my kids' books, I do a lot more detail and journaling about them specifically. So, there is a page in their book about their school information: teacher, grade, friends, favorite subjects, etc. I also include a 2 page spread about football season: coach, team photo, highlights, memories, and lots of action shots.

I work very hard at doing it as the year progresses. The secret to my success is to do it. :) Easy, right? I work hard to catch back up if I begin to lag behind. This has been a HUGE help. I assemble my Project Life book in the Blurb software all along the way. It keeps me from having to format 120 pages all at once. I can do it little by little as I go. Also, my kids' books start and end in August of each year. It is opposite of my P365. It allows me some time to finish up and tweak anything without the burden of 4 books due all at once. I do the vacation books along the way as well.

Mining My Stamp Stash

I have switched my stamp index over to Evernote officially. It is complete, and I LOVE it!! I have found so many great uses for stamp sets that have been setting dormant. I love that I can "mine" my own stamp stash for images and sentiments. Don't get me wrong. I love getting new stamps. But, at some point you have to take a good look at your stash and either use it or lose it.

This card was made with some stamp sets that have yet to see ink. Most of that is circumstantial at this point, but it is nice to use some of my new things as I get back into the swing of card making again. This card all started with the flower stamp from Boxes, Bags, and Tags. I love that flower. Where has it been? Well, it was locked away in forgetful land until Evernote brings these things to light.

Baby Girl

So, I liked making the shaped card so much that I made a girl one.

I loved how the little scallops turned out. I have a stamp from years ago made by "The Paper Studio". It is a long simple scallop stamp. I was so easy to bend it to go around the legs of the onesie.

I didn't get a photo of the inside. Oh!! I stamped the "Congrats on your new little bundle" from Signature Greetings. I accented it with a flower from the Flower Fusion line. Shame on me. I thought that was one of the best parts.

Baby on the Brain

I definitely have baby on the brain. I was putting away my newest Papertrey Ink order when I ran across this Onesie Die. I couldn't stop thinking about it. So, I made a card. Again, I kept it simple. I am still trying to get back into the creative swing.

Yes, I made a boy card. Because, I am after all having a boy. I am super excited. Anyway. I was so happy with how this turned out. It wasn't as easy as I thought it was going to be cutting the card. Two layers of card stock gave my little Cuttlebug a run for its money.

I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year! I went into my craft room and made my very first card in months. It felt so good. But, it was funny as I sometimes felt like I had 2 left hands (which would be GREAT if I were left handed). I couldn't remember where I kept things. It came back slowly at first, but I started acting like I had never taken time off before long.

I went simple. Easy. Mostly I wanted to try my new PTI inks. More on that later. I want to use them several times before I give an honest opinion.

Where in the World

I seem to have gone missing in blog land. I cannot tell you that things will pick up anytime soon, but I do promise to blog more than 1 time per 6 months. :) Where to begin and how to keep it short and sweet.

My dad got sick and wasn't getting any better. Long story short, he had a stroke during a simple eye surgery. I spent a lot of time at my parents house over the summer and just after school started. Praise the Lord. My dad is recovering. Slowly, but recovering non the less.

I have not shared tons about my private life. Again long story short, my husband and I have been trying to have #3 for about 3 1/2 years. We had 2 back to back summers of heart break when I miscarried. Again, to God be the glory, I am pregnant. The baby and I are doing well. Well, mom is experiencing some serious pregnancy sickness, but it is nothing earth shattering or that won't go away after the birth of our 3rd. I am due mid-May with a little boy. We are working on a name, but so far he is nameless.

Oh, and we bought 10 acres at the beginning of 2011. We are starting construction on our house in February of 2012. We are putting the final touches on the floor plans the next 2 weeks.

So, not only have I not been blogging. I haven't been doing ANY crafting. Blasphemy!!! :) In fact, I haven't bought anything since June until I put in an order during PTI's December release.

I have been keeping up with my Project 365. So, I thought I would share my November title page from my 2011 book. Yes, it is all complete except the 21st to the 28th and the 29th to the 31st.

I am sorry for the unexpected absence. But let's hope the new year will bring me some much needed crafting therapy. I miss making cards more than words can express. It is like a salve to my soul.

Memories

It has been a LONG time since I have paper scrapbooked. Most of my friends and followers know that I switched to total digital over 10 years ago. But, I still have some photos that are a blast from the past that I would like to scrap. My style and technique has changed so much since I last paper scrapped, but it will still look good in my album. So, enjoy! Who knows when I will get the scrapbooking inspiration again. :)

Basically, everything you see is from Papertrey Ink. This photo was taken in 1986. (Yes, that is exposing!) I really wanted to journal on the front, but I couldn't find the right pen so I just journaled on the back. If I find the need to buy a pen to journal on Kraft, I will definitely bring it to the front. I also need to add a date so that I don't have to slip it out of the book to see the date. I don't have a great solution for it, so I am going to wait.

Stamp-a-faire Challenge #7

Yes! I finished another one!! YEAH!! The twitter updates are amazing. It looks like everyone at the Stamp-a-faire event are having an amazing time. Here's to hoping I win a prize. :)

This challenge was to see if you could find 2 or 3 stamp sets that worked together surprisingly. I used the star image from "Silent Night" and some medallions from Giga Guidelines and Guidelines II to make the back ground. I am sure this has been done, but I discovered that the Tiny Tags series fit inside the Mat Stack stamps. So fun!!

Stamp-a-faire Challenge #8

So, I am working out of order today. :) But, I am still having so much fun!

This challenge was to make a card where the cover is slightly shorter than the back. I don't recall ever making a card like this before, so it was fun to try.

I have been wanting to pull out some pattern paper for a while. It seems like when I first started stamping and card making that I couldn't do anything without a patterned paper. Now, I have gone full circle and hardly use them at all. Interesting what we trend towards over time.

Stamp-a-faire Challenge #3

I am finally starting to work some of my crafting muscles back into shape. Yeah!! :)

This challenge was all about cutting a window in your card and wrapping ribbon through it. I went out on a limb and used the bow to kind of accent the butterfly. This was an extremely fun card to create. Thanks for looking.

Oh, this was fun!! I love it when projects just come together. It is fun to find stamps from lots of sets and create a card. So much fun!!

Stamp-a-Faire Challenge #2

Yeah, I made it through the 2nd challenge. :) I am having a fun slow, but very fun day. This challenge was to use Raspberry Fizz and Smokey Shadow.

I had fun with this one. And, I used the glimmer mist again. I am addicted to the shimmer. Eek! The sentiment is coming up fuzzy while it is not in real life. I would fuss with it, but I am shooting with a new camera and don't want to spend today figuring out the best shooting combo. Thanks for looking!

Stamp • a • Faire Begins at Home

I have had a crazy, wild, fun, hard, heart-breaking, and blessed summer. Sounds crazy, hugh? But so true. To spare you (and frankly me, too), I will leave out the details except to tell you that my husband has graciously given me this little day in the year to just stamp. Stamping is such a source of fresh wind in my life. And trust me . . . I could use it today. :)

I am going to try and play along with the Papertrey Ink's Stamp-a-Faire challenges and fun all day. I have NEVER taken a whole day just to play. This should be interesting and fun. We'll see what really gets done today. So, I am sorry upfront for the post blast that should/will happen today.

The first challenge was to stamp a strip using one of our favorite icons in our stamping stash. I have must have back-to-school on my mind as this is what I came up with.

I like how I went for an obvious, but not-so-obvious, color scheme. I think it works. Do you see the shimmer on the Pinefeather card stock? It is so pretty in real life. I am still unsure of the main image thingy. I will have to keep looking at it to see if I want to make a change. But, otherwise, I was super happy.

This was the first card I have actually made since May. Seriously. Yes, really!! My 4th of July post has been scheduled since like November of last year. :) Sneaky, hugh? And my book was ordered at the end of May. So, let's just say that today is timely and so exciting for me.

It Came! It Came!

I worked on my "365" book all of last year. I was faithful. I got it all put together. Then. . . I didn't have the extra cash to spend on it. So, I put it off. Then, I put it off again. And again. And again. Until I decided that I needed to just press order. So I did!!

Chevron Stripes

I know that chevron stripes are hot right now. I was awaiting my Papertrey order to arrive with the ever-so-cute Chevron Stripes Background set. I set down to make a card and ran across this paper in my stash. I know it has been there for at least 2+ years. So, in honor of this newest trend, I played. :)

I was taken by the colors in this paper and have had a hard time using it. However, this time I pulled it out, the card just flew together so fast and easy.

Way Out of My Comfort Zone

Well, what do you think? I have mixed emotions about it. Seriously!! On one hand, I like it because I can totally see myself giving this to a more mature lady. On the other hand, I really don't like it because it is not, well, me. I am not crazy about the paper nor the colors. I still wanted to share because I may or may not love it. :)

PTI Blog Hop April 2011

I have two cards to share today, and I will be quick. :) First off, let me say that the "Boy Basics" line that released at Papertrey Ink this month is OUT OF THIS WORLD. The Simple Circles stamps and die is the single greatest product release in months. It is versatile, adaptable to all styles, and just plain adorable. Take a look at that line of circles. Perfection! That Lisa Johnson is a designer super star!

You wouldn't know it (so I am going to show you), but the inside has a little sentiment combo that I thought was adorable.

I have one more card that I made and thought I would share. Let me first say that I really wanted some google eyes for this frog, but I had to make do. I will be heading to the store today or tomorrow to remedy this poor frogs eyes. I had the plaid paper still sitting out from the card above and thought I would look cute for another boy card.

Do you see the water/waves? That is the negative of the Simple Circle Die. It made the PERFECT water. The photo doesn't show it well, but the dies leave just a little embossing around the edges that really made the water waves.

A Few Random Cards

I have two cards to share today that are inspired by my blog and another that is a new technique. 3 Cards in one day!! :)

I hand cut all the little pieces for this card except the circle. I cheated and used a punch.

I punched the flowers and hand cut the cloud.

Now, if you read my blog regularly, you know I am not a perfect stamper. I try, but it doesn't always work out. :) I wasn't going to share this card, but I sometimes find it helpful for me when I look back at my work. I like to see how I have grown - whether the technique worked out or not.

I have been working for WEEKS on getting the blending technique. This was my very first attempt. The day I made this card, I drove to Hobby Lobby, spent more money than I wanted, and walked out with a Tim Holtz blending tool and pads. It was after several weeks of disappointment that Betsy Veldman made the PTI Make It Monday video. I watched it; I watched in again. Then it hit me. I had bought the felt pads and should have purchased the foam pads. LIGHTBULB!!!

I have the new pads and have been itching to try it again. Hopefully, I will get to it and share my results. Oh, live and learn!

It has been a LONG time since I posted. Sorry. Seriously, I have been working away in the background, but I have severely neglected this blog. It seems I am a feast and famine blogger. :) My husband has a cousin that is getting married today. This is the card that I made for them.

I really loved creating this little card. For me this is WAY out of my "box". I made the scalloped card on my Gypsy and cut it out with my Cricut. On the inside, it read "Congratulations to the Bride and Groom." Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of it before it was signed and sealed.

Well, I am off . . . on a race around the world. Ok, in my dreams I would be running the Amazing Race. In reality, I am starting a two and a half week journey that begins and ends with love. Literally.

My husband's best friend is getting married tomorrow. YEAH!! So, we are traveling for a couple of days for that. As soon as we get home (like 10 hours later), we are flying off to sunny California. So, I am literally wishing you Sunshine (ummm . . . and Rainbows). I know my family is excited for our vacation. This is the first time we are taking the kids on a trip like this. Your prayers would be GREATLY appreciated. Oh, and then we return home we wait 3 days and then return to the same city we travel to today. Yes, a complete circle. My husband's brother is getting married. WOO-WHOO! What are the odd's!! Two weddings to be in. The same month. The same city. And we are lucky enough to get to travel for both. (there was maybe a very small hint of sarcasm in that)

Love's Fairy Tale

I am sharing a sweet card that is special to me. My brother-in-law is getting married in March, and I have been racking my brain for the "perfect" card for them. I found it!!! I cannot imagine that either one of them reads my blog so I should be safe. :)

I started off making another Go-To Sentiment card for PTI's Make It Monday. It just grew into the perfect love/wedding card for two people I love. So FUN!

I searched my entire stash to come up with this one. I am over the moon for this technique and love finding sentiments to coordinate together like this. I kept the colors a very neutral wedding color (and I think they are having a very "black and white" affair for their wedding). I loved the main sentiment from the time I laid my eyes on it. Isn't that just the sweetest. "Love gives us a fairytale." Love.

Holy Lots of Cards, Batman

I am a card making machine! I have LOVED it! I have had all sorts of life issues and priorities pop up the past few months. I was talking to my husband about how spending time in my little card room makes me so happy and brings me such joy. He is my biggest fan. Weird, but so cool. He encourages me to keep going, keep trying, and keep creating. We decided that I should prioritize some time here and there to be able to do what it is that I love so much. Obviously, I cannot spend every waking moment making cards (darn it!), but I should find time regularly to refresh. Isn't he the best? I mean there is a balance, but I am blessed for a husband that cares about the things I care about. He will even try and offer compliments and critiques when I show him what I have been up to. It is so funny to get his perspective. Anyway . . . back to all these cards I have been making!

I made a very fun card to share today inspired by PTI's Make It Monday's series. Because the prize is $250 in the PTI store, I may make like 100 or 200 of these just for the chance to win. That is a lot of great goodies and well worth the time I put in. :) We were challenged by Erin Lincoln to make a Go-To Sentiment card. I was thinking in my sleep last night (do you do this?) and thought about something I wanted to try. So, here were the results.

I was reading through a fellow PTI'er blog, Sara Mac who blogs at The Unhurried Life. She used a technique she picked up from Dawn McVey. I loved the concept and have wanted to try it. The idea is the heat emboss on Vintage cream. The results are stunning in real life; I so wish the camera would pick up these details for me. The technique just fit perfectly for this challenge. Yeah!

I am super excited to be playing along with all of the Papertrey Ink's 4th Anniversary Celebration activities. It is not short on fun, inspiration, and A-MAZ-ING prizes! It is so kind of PTI and gang to offer free downloadable stamps for us to play with. I usually don't play with a set of stamps so quick, but the prize of working with Nicole is too good to pass up. I mean I don't know what I would say to her to help design a set. It would just be a stick figure of me - wetting my pants - because that is probably what I would do if I won. I mean where do you even begin in designing a set of stamps. I never know what I want until I see some fabulous stamps from PTI and THEN the lightbulb goes on. So, if I win, look out!

I choose to play with this cutie by Tiffany Pastor. It was the first one to speak to me, so I went with it. It seemed so "beachy" to me, but I couldn't find my inner beach bum with all this snow around me. Hmm, maybe that is what all the black clouds are about. Shrug. But I still like it. :)

There are lots of anniversary celebrations going on. Most of you know that Papertrey Ink is in the middle of their 4th Anniversary celebration. But, did you know that my husband has a dear, sweet aunt that celebrated her 50th Anniversary? No. That's ok. Let me tell you then. My husband's aunt Liz and her husband did celebrate their 50th Anniversary with a surprise party with many close family and friends. It was a great night to celebrate a sweet person. Favorite Papertrey Ink Card

Papertrey Ink is having their Anniversary Celebration. Nicole challenged us to pick out our favorite card from this past year. This was HARD! I narrowed it down to about 5 cards before I made the tough choice.

I would like to introduce to you my personal favorite.

I love this card for so many reasons. First, I am in love with Summer Sunrise, the color. I cannot seem to get enough of it. This card also came together so easily. I had the vision for it, and it just worked. I don't know about you but that doesn't happen to me a lot. I get all excited when it does. Last, I am a sucker for bright fall colors. This certainly fits the bill for bright and fall.

Days and Days and Days

It has been days!!! Days!!! DAYS!!!! Yes, it has been days since I left my house. If you haven't heard, my kids and I all came down with the flu last week. YUCK!!! As we were somewhat coming out of the flu coma we were in, the blizzard hit. DAYS!!! :) Despite the weather, my mood, and how I felt, I of course still found a little crafty time. That is just how I roll!

I have a really fun (and deceptively easy) card to share today. I was trying for a little bit more mature card. So, although a stretch creatively, I was super happy with the results. I stamped the flower directly on the pattern paper. Then, I took my copics and added just a slight shadow on the petals to give it some dimension. Easy-peasy! I will definitely revisit this idea again. The tone on tone effect is beautiful and a whole lot easier.

Thank You . . . for being patient in my blogging absence. It has been CRAZY in my life. Ok, maybe it isn't fair to say crazy. Maybe wild? No. Well . . . maybe I should just say that things in my offline life needed priority over my online life. Yeah, that is how I can best explain it.

But, I am back. Well, maybe. I am having a hard time prioritizing some things in my life at the moment and it only makes sense that card making and blogging take a backseat when they need to. So, if you will bear with me, I will be somewhat spotty probably over the next year. (*EEK! As I run and put my head under a pillow*) Let me share my card and then if you really care, I will explain below.

What is news with me . . . I am glad you asked. Here is the headlines in no particular order: After almost 3 years, 2 miscarriages, and much healing, I am putting my faith out there and saying that this is the year we are going to get pregnant with our 3rd child and having a happy, healthy baby. My husband has officially made a job change for the better as of the first of the year after a long autumn and winter of unfortunate events. We are in the process of buying 10 acres, building our "dream house", and moving to the country (and if you know me, the city girl, you know I could write a book about that alone). We are getting ready to put our house on the market to sell (Read: Lots of cleaning, lots of organizing, and lots of packing). I have two school age children that I love and adore and that I pour my life into every chance that I get by spending time, volunteering at their school, shared experiences, and lots of hugs and LOTS of love.

2010 Year in Review

I was just looking through several weeks of Google Reader blogs. I have been loving the "Top 10" posts that so many are posting. I wanted to join the fun, but I would like to do it with a twist. Yeah, I always like to change things up - it's how I roll. :)

2010 has been a year of abundant blessing, much growth, many memories, a few tears (at times with much pain), and a year that I will always cherish. Instead of picking my top 10, which is probably the last 10 cards I made, I wanted to do a year in review. Just like life, my card making is a process. One that is full of growth, sometimes pain, and many great memories. So enjoy my stroll through 2010 while I choose a card that I made each month.

For January, I choose to share this card for the first time on my blog. Yes, I do have things I don't blog about. It happens; it happens more than I would want.

Verve Project Parade

I am squeaking in at the last minute for the Verve Project Parade. When I read about the challenge, I was intrigued and knew exactly which stamps I wanted to use. Although I love winter, I am a sunny kind of girl. KWIM? I wanted to make something for my husband as he has basically nothing in his office. No seriously. He has two pictures (one of each child) on this huge, beautiful bookcase. So, I wanted to cheer it up a little, and I think he is going to love it. That is the kind of husband I have - I know - so lucky! :)

Here are my projects all together and close ups to follow.

How fun is this? Right! I just love all of these together. I think it makes it more fun and more special when you know what you have created is going to bring someone you love so much "sunshine".

Here is a close up of the card. I created the background paper by stamping and coloring the sunshine. Then I had to add some polka dots because what is a card without them?

This is the altered canvas that I made for him. I can see this sitting on his bookcase already.

This is just the bag. I stamped the sun on the front but the polka dots go all around the bag.

I wanted to show you a close up of the tag and sunshine on the bag. Do you see the sparkles? I couldn't make a cream colored bag look right and trust me that there are no Harvest Gold or Smokey Shadow ones to be found. So, I made do with the kraft color.

My Process and How My Organization Reflects It

Today is going to be a LONG post. Sorry. There was some discussion at the PTI boards about organization. I wanted to snap some photos to help some of my fellow crafters out. So, I thought a blog post was in order so that I can explain it all in one place. So, you may see these on the boards, too.

My Process

Here is a little overview of my little stamping space. Otherwise known in our house as "Mom's Closet". This little room is off the back of my bathroom, which is off the back of our master bedroom, at the very end/corner of our house, as far away from humanity as humanly possible, out of ear shot of any goings on in my house . . . you get the picture. This was a very purposeful little space - just for me (well, or any kids who wander in because that's the kind of mom I am). And seriously, it is small. But, when you are building a house and each square foot costs you, you realize really quick that an oversized closet will be best. And, when we sell, someone will get two walk in closets and one extremely large one. I will be making some woman VERY happy.

I have lots going on here. I will come back to the specifics later throughout my post.

I almost always (and without fail, every time, seriously) start with the stamps. I just do. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to put a stamp or fit it with something I want to use. It just frustrates me. So, I have two things I use for this.

The first is my "stamp book".

This is it. No frills. Here are some peeks inside.

Yes, I actually stamp each stamp in this book. YIKES! I find that it helps for a couple of reasons. One, often times the stamps need conditioning before they can be used. I almost always buy PTI, but no matter what brand, I go through the same steps. As soon as I get my stamps, I open them, stamp them into inventory, and store them in CD cases. I have had to discipline myself to do this. But, it makes the rest SO much easier. Two, I like to stamp them because I get an accurate example of its size. And last, I can see any trouble spots up front and get a feel for the stamp before it ever hits a project.

This little book offers a bit more than meets the eye. I write down EVERYTHING I can think of about the stamp on the back of the pages. I like to write the release date (if I know it), the stamp company, what date I purchased it, how much it cost, does it have a matching die or punch (even if I don't own it), does it have coordinating paper, was there a reason or project that made me purchase the stamps, etc. You don't know how many times I will see a stamp set and go, "I remember the most adorable card that Nicole made with this." I can turn the page over and see that it was released in April of 2010 and head straight to her blog. You would be surprised at how you think you will always remember that these were PTI, Verve Stamps, or whatever. But months or years later (and 100 stamps sets) you cannot for the life of you remember. I know this seems obnoxious. I am slightly embarrassed to share this side of me. OCD? But, I am a chain remember-er. One little bit of info triggers so much.

The second stamp organization tool that I use is my iPad. Well, actually it is an app on my iPad called HanDBase. I use it to organize all of my sentiments. Here is a screen shot of some of my stamps with their sentiments (sorry it isn't rotated).

I use this app to sort sentiments by theme. I can also do a search for any sentiment that has the word "love" in it, etc. I don't feel like I have to use the sentiments that are included with a certain stamp set. I get so much more mileage out of them this way.

Now that I have picked my stamps, I will go looking for any matching dies or punches. And sometimes, I will just go looking to see what I have that I may want to use. This is where my "Punch and Die" book comes into play.

Again, no frills. This little book has lots of surprises. So let's take a look inside.

I use each page to typically only punch one shape. I made an exception for the little circle because they were the same brand. I label the punch with the brand and description. I don't bother with coordinating stamp sets as this is always changing and referenced with the stamp. Also, I don't bother with electronic die cuts. This is only for metal dies or punches.

You may wonder why I kept the negative. Well, check out what I can do with them.

I can actually use my stamp book to visually see exactly what it is going to look like on my die or punch. The only downside is that I made my book 4 inches by 4 inches. I want to go back and make a bigger one to accommodate the PTI Mat Stack Dies. Who knows? I may make them their own book. Obviously, this is always a work in progress.

So, I have my stamps and my die cuts or punches chosen . . .

Now, I take the opportunity to select my color scheme. I have yet another little handy, dandy book for this, too. :) My Color Book!

I made this book the same size as an A2 card - 4.25 by 5.5 inches. I thought I would show you my little inside secret.

Let me point out a few things. I adhere a piece of card stock to a white piece of paper. I like the white because it allows me to stamp directly on it to showcase the ink as well. I stamp all of my matching colors in the upper right hand corner. And I of course write in the name. I don't put PTI on any of these as I only use PTI. If I went with a different company, I would have to decide if I wanted a new book or add to this. ??? I am sticking with PTI for now. Also, on the top left corner of the colored card stock, I have stamped with Versamark. I like to see what my options are. I keep thinking that some day I am going to go back and stamp tone on tone as well. I haven't yet, but this may be the catalyst to get me going, who knows. The only other thing I have considered and haven't done is adding stamping on Vintage Cream.

I also keep a little book of color schemes. :) Seriously, I need "little book" therapy.

Do you recognize those? The PTI team did these for the Anniversary (I think). Anyway, I not only cut out and paste the color scheme idea, I use one of the dots from Polka Dot Basics to stamp it onto the card. I have little color challenge pictures cut and in here. When I see a color scheme I want to keep, I put it in my book. If I am ever stumped, I just pull it out and go from there. Sometimes I copy the colors exactly and sometimes they inspire me in a similar or whole new direction. It is sized at 4.25 inches by 2.5 inches.

Here is a quick look at how I store my paper.

I keep them in their packages and in a magazine rack on my shelf. This sits desk level on my shelving directly to my right. I don't keep very much pattern paper, but the non-PTI paper is in the drawers to the right. The PTI pattern paper in on the shelf to the right of the drawers. I keep them in their little matchbook holder things.

Now here is where I start thinking about my paper - not just the color. Do I want to use a pattern, stamp a pattern, emboss, or impress. For this, I am making another little book. :) I don't have a photo of it as it is still under construction, but it is copies of the front of the PTI pattern paper holder. I don't have a magical answer for other patterns. I just rummage through the drawer of paper. Nothing scientific.

If I am going to stamp a pattern, I have already picked it out in my stamp picking process or I can go back to my Stamp Book. Now, if I want to emboss or impress, well . . . I have a book for that.

It is exactly like my punch book - same size and made from the same materials. I just took each page and either impressed or embossed. It is easier if you write on the paper first and then emboss. But I do that on the back of each page.

This is also where I will go through my border punches and dies. And, yes, I have a little book for that. Only my son made cards yesterday. He was so excited that I had some pre-made cuts for him to use. :) He honestly didn't know it was a book. I had them on a binder ring, but I didn't put any chipboard on it. He saw it laying on my desk and went to town. So, I will be making another. It was long like a short ruler. I cut 2 inch by 6 inch papers and punched the hole. THEN, I punched the border. That ensured that all the pages lined up on one side. I am AR like that. :) I will say that when I remake this, I will make it 2 inches by 8 inches (if I were a scrapbooker, I would consider 12 inches).

Now is the fun part. The embellishments! I keep most of my embellishments organized by color. The tall tower of drawers is little bits and pieces all sorted by color - regardless of manufacturer or "set".

Look almost all the way to the left. See those drawers? That is all sorts of buttons, flowers, jewels, little pieces of ribbon that didn't get used, etc. I will run through quickly how I sort some of my other things.

This is how I store my ribbon. These are Cropper Hopper 3 X 3 embellishment drawers. For me, this is THE perfect way to store ribbon. I would love to have a couple more, but they are not made anymore. I keep all of the same color together and it is sorted according to the order in my color book. So, if you opened the top left drawer, you would find Scarlet Jewel ribbon, Pure Poppy Ribbon, Terra-cotta Tile Ribbon, and so forth from drawer to drawer. Yes, I have to readjust with each color release, but I never have to guess where a color will be. Because I do have to readjust every other month or so, I haven't put the colors on the outside of the drawer.

This is my ink colors. They are situated on the shelves to the right of my desk. They sit atop a kitchen organizer. It is really a pantry riser. I fits my PTI inks perfectly. So, dreading the new inks for storage purposes. I have no idea if this will still work. I have a few of my reinkers out, but they are usually in a white box (more on those in a bit). I used a hole punch to punch a small piece of card stock to adhere on the outside of the inks. I also have them arranged by color groups. It is fast and painless to find what I need.

I have a bunch of these photo boxes on my shelves. I like that they are all the same size and fit perfectly on my shelves - maximize the space. I store all kinds of things in these. You can see some of the labels. You can find the bulk of the "other" stuff in these boxes: PTI felt, Cricut Catridges, Glitter, Embossing, Tools, Markers and Pens, punches that are seasonal or not used as frequent, non PTI ink, reinkers . . . just to name a few.

The bottom drawer is where are where I store my PTI dies. Yes, they all fit in there quite well. Have a peek inside.

The top right is where I keep my Fillable Frames series. The bottom right is all of the small punches like Up Up and Away, Beautiful Blooms, etc. The bottom left is for Mat Stacks. The top left is just for my Christmas Tree. :) It is one of the only single, larger dies.

So, where do I store all of my "little books"? Well, they are typically kept in the metal bin directly in front of me at my desk all the time. Take a peek.

I like having them right at my finger tips so that they are a tool to my process. I really do use all of these things - multiple times per card sometimes. They greatly increase my productivity by allowing me to put my focus on the fun and design and not what "stuff" I have that would work.

I don't scrapbook much anymore. Ok, I don't paper scrapbook at all. But, if you do, I have a tip for you. Do you see the pink paper poking out of the top right side of my basket. In that baggie, you will find templates of all sorts of common photo sizes (several of each 4 x 6, 5 x 7, 4 x 4, 3.5 x 5). I used to be able to plan and make my pages even before I printed my pictures. It made for MUCH faster work. No more printing a 4 x 6 only to want a 5 x 7 when you began making the page.

I wanted to point out a couple of last things. I have created a "U" around me. All of my supplies (with exception of a few seasonal things or weird things I don't use much) are within reach. Anything I use a lot is at my finger tips. All of my adhesive is found in the metal basket right at the front of my desk. My paper trimmer is hanging on the wall with my Score Buddy right next to it (look beside the drawers). My scissors are hanging at my fingertips. I even have my iPad right in front of me. I can use it to access my stamp database, my inspiration files (I have all of them synced to my iPad), and even watch TV while I work.

I love my space. I really do. I am ALWAYS looking for ways to improve. So, I don't necessarily claim any of the ideas here. I have seen things and copied them, adjusted them to fit my needs, or yeah I actually thought of a thing or two. So, what you see today may not be here tomorrow, but I have reached a point where I tweak more instead of change. But, I am always open to the possibility. :)

I am sharing the cards from the gift set I shared yesterday. I made these for my sister. She has such a distinct style and taste. I would describe her as charming, nodding toward old world, slightly rustic, yet very sophisticated. I honestly thought these cards were "her".

For my card, I used some luscious pinefeather felt. I finally broke down and ordered Papertrey Ink's Pinefeather. Oh my!! It is such a great color - ribbons, paper, and felt. I don't have a need for many Christmas stamps and haven't been able to justify a purchase of a snowflake set. I have wanted a set for so long, but would only use them sparingly. So, I thought and thought. I used the Giga Guidelines 2 to mimic a snowflake. It worked! Did you even notice? I love it when I make these little bitty discoveries.

I had the opportunity to spend some time "playing" in my little craft space. I love those times where you don't limit your creativity. No challenges, no colors, no particular theme. Oddly, those can be the most challenging, too. :) But, on this day, I was able to just play.

On today's card, I inked up an embossing folder before I ran the paper through my Cuttlebug. It was definitely an interesting effect. I will return to this but in different colors and armed with a wealth of knowledge. Also, do you see the little beaded wire? That was another "try" I did. I liked how it turned out overall, but the whole card sorda turned out industrial.

Thinking of You

Long time no post! Eeek. Sometimes life has a way of getting in the way of the things I want to do. I have missed blogging. I have missed creating. I have made a few things behind the scenes. But quite honestly, I haven't had a chance to get in my little space and create. You know the kind? The opportunity to just play with all my creative goodness. No deadlines. No projects. No kids. No stress.

Oh, I never mentioned my in-laws 40th SURPRISE Anniversary Party. That is what kept me busy through the end of September and the first half of October. 300 pictures. 220 photos used in a video. About 100 photos printed, matted, and tagged. Yes, LOTS of work for me. So, hopefully I am somewhat back again.

I used a sketch from TE. This was a few weeks back. I came up with this idea and never had a chance to see it to completion. Although the challenge is long gone, I still loved the concept and wanted to keep going. The polka dots and plaid took FOREVER to stamp (mostly because I made 10 of these).

I am blogging from afar this morning; I hope it all goes as planned. This month we were instucted to use a stamp from one of the TE Christmas stamp sets. I used two different things for this card.

One, I loved how the embossed polka dot background looks. I saw it here - Soapbox Creations. Laurie is super talented, and I love visiting her blog almost daily. So, I am working on my embossing skills, but I had to give it a try anyway.

Two, most of you probably recognize the frame from the ever-so-talented Maile Belles. The first time I saw her use this frame - found here - I was overwhelmed. So creative! So beautiful!! I knew right then and there that I was going to use this same frame over and over.

I have a new favorite. :) Yes, it continually changes. Please no judgement about my changing. I have grown to love Summer Sunrise by Papertrey Ink. I really didn't care for the color, but it was nice to have around. However, lately I find that I reach for it all the time. I don't know if it is the changing season or what, but I love it. Happy September 1st!!!! That is just crazy! We have had a great summer, but now I am ready for a long fall with fall weather. I love the warm days and cool evenings that this time of year brings.

Too Cute to Spook

Let me just say . . . this is my 2nd ever Halloween card. I adored my very first one (see it here). But, we don't do Halloween. We never have. Every year I see all these cute Halloween projects and cards, but I am really never a part of them. This year I decided to buy PTI's Tiny Treats: Halloween stamp set to make some things to send with the kids to school. It is my one and only Halloween stamp set. So, if you see it in my projects a lot, you will know why. :)

I am playing along with Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge #126. I haven't talked about TE much on my blog. I have followed Taylor's work for a couple of years and have recently become a Key Ingredients subscriber. While I was at CHA, I had the opportunity to talk to her and let me tell you - an absolute sweet heart. I bought my very first 4 SETS of TE rubber stamps and have become a fan in more ways. Isn't it nice to know you are in good company? I mean seriously; who better to play along with than a great person and a great company. I have been waiting to play with my new Guidelines Impression plate since I saw its debut. However, I really didn't see a lot of the design team members using it. So, I was a touch concerned about it. It did not disappoint! I love the simple, and much needed, texture it added to my card. Also, did you see ocean tides? This is one of my original favorite colors, but it has gone by the side for me lately. Oh, how delicious that color still is in my eyes!! Thanks for looking today! Welcome to one of my very first shaped cards. I made a shaped card about 2 years ago, which was my first. I don't typically do these, but when the Create blog challenged us to do a star shaped card I pulled out my Gypsy and began creating. I learned a lot!! It wasn't nearly as painful as I thought it would be. Maybe I will venture into them more often. Also, I need to finish my teacher cards. Yes, they are not done, and we started Thursday. :) Only 3 more!!!

Today I have a wedding card to share with you. For some reason, this is THE hardest type of card to make. I honestly don't know where the disconnect is for me. I don't feel like there are any great wedding stamp sets out there. I have found a few bits and pieces here and there but nothing that knocks my socks off. Wow, what a downer way to start a post. Chalk it up to a late night coupled with an early morning of fussy children. :)

I was totally happy to use my Tiny Treats Valentine for all sorts of applications all year long. That set gets TONS of mileage with all the kids in my life.

We had a baby shower at our church for a couple that I really didn't know well. So, I went pretty neutral when I made this card to go with their gift. As it turned out, I really love using yellow for baby cards. I know I have already posted about it, but it is still true.

And I actually stamped on the inside of a card. !!!! I know . . . you are thinking that is crazy. But, I happen to see this little tip/trick on the fabulous Nicole Heady's blog. I used Giga Guidelines as a background to the inside sentiment. I stamped it in Lemon Tart, so it made it harder to photograph. What do you think? I was totally thrilled with how classy it turned out.

I thought I would be blogging every day this week. Well, I am glad to get any posts up. :) I am making some invitations - okay about 100 - for a surprise event. I was commissioned to keep it a surprise; so once the event passes, I will share what has taken me so long. I don't think anyone would happen by my blog, but you never know. This is my last "job" for a while as I am taking some time off of custom orders. Switching gears, today's card is one from earlier in the summer. Papertrey Ink CHA Make-n-Takes

I had a blast in Chicago for CHA. I am forever thankful that my husband agreed to let me go without question. It was refreshing. Of course, the major reason I went to the show and the highlight was getting to the Papertrey Ink booth.

Nicole and crew were fantastic!! She was right at the front of the booth greeting customers with a smile and warm welcome. Heather and Debbie were running one make-n-take while Dawn and Michelle did the other. PTI, by far, had the best make-n-takes of anyone else at the show. Hey free PTI, it doesn't get better than that. :) The girls had to be tired from travels and long days, but you would never know from their sweet spirits and happy hearts. They were gracious to take photos with and for fans. During the Meet & Greet, Nicole, Heather, Debbie, Dawn, and Michelle took the time to ask questions and really connect. It was sincere and heartfelt. Jane was fantastic and gracious as she took the time to speak with us and answer all our silly questions. I spent a lot of money and time to get to CHA, and they didn't disappoint. Thanks, PTI.

I was so appreciative that they let us impress and die cut on our own. It was good for first time PTI'ers and those who were hesitant to try them. Let me just say that the envelope die cut was not even on my radar, but after using it I immediately went in the booth and purchased it. :) Great marketing move on PTI's part. ;)

Thanks for reading my longer than usual post. I had a great, refreshing, relaxing time in Chicago at a much needed time.

CHA 2010 - Papertrey Ink Kites

I had an AWESOME time in Chicago attending the CHA Supershow. By far, the highlight was getting to the Papertrey Ink booth. I wanted to share all of the kites that hung around their booth. I am always delighted to see new things made by the fabulous design team. I was hoping that all the Design Team would share these on their blogs. So without further ado . . . the Papertrey Ink Design Team Kites from CHA 2010.

Another Teacher Card

I am slowly getting my teacher cards completed for the kids to go back to school. I made another 5x7 card and am falling head over heels for School Time designed by Niki Estes. I don't want to put the background stamps down. This is a must have set if you need anything teacher or school themed. Hands Down!!

I don't know why the letters background is so washed out. It was stamped with versa mark and no matter what I tried, my camera would not get a good photo of it. Maybe I should try during the day to re-shoot it.

I can honestly say that this has been a pretty crumby week. Sigh! Going into my little craft space is like therapy for my soul. I haven't had the mental energy to even walk by it. I was looking through all my regular blogs and was inspired by a certain stamp set that is my FAVORITE. Ok, maybe one of my tops. On the Cards Blog, the challenge was to make a card using a kite. I slowly crept to my little crafty desk and sat down. I could use a little "lift" at the moment and came up with this.
